Hey all, continuing my attempts to learn how to paint ;D
Vassago, not much to say about him. Another character from REVOLT! A demon this time! I think this is probably the first demon I post. I'll keep the rest a secret.
Inspirations: Hotaru from Samurai Deeper Kyo. I'm lame, you'll understand why in a distant future.
Surprisingly, this simple composition was 222 mb, I don't get it :<
Comments and crits always appreciated.

not sure if the light source is completely constant....
maybe the texture should have been warped to go with the direction of the clothes?
good use of textures (they do help and look nice)
maybe the hair strands shouldn't be quite so straight?
maybe so varying in the line weights on the neck?
good character design.
over all good picture. i do like it.
Glad you like it, and thanks for the detailed comment!!
maybe if like laid out the colors/shades with 5 second cell shading? or even just when though with varying greys and was just like ooh this will be dark *scribble dark color*, and over here is directly in the light *scribble white highlight and light color*, and then when actually coloring used that as a guild? idk it's just a thought, rather or not you ignore it is up to you.
and the detailed comment is no problem... it's just what popped into my mind, and since I like it i decided to type my thoughts, since they might help. but i do like it, possibly enough to get me interested in these demon things you speak of.
basically we had to make a glorified grey block by actually projecting the shadows, and figure out where the shadows would actually be. he told use to pick a light source, than go through it and actually write L or S on the surfaces for Light and Shade, then actually worry about shadows because they can only fall on light surfaces. though these were rather simple objects, like:
[link] (would post thumb but can't use)
it's just a bunch of flat surfaces that come to sharp corners. organic things aren't that clean. i guess it's just really an extension of his L/S system.
though it might also help with not losing details. just a thought.
like i said it's not like you have to try it or anything, i would call it more of adding another step of planning than a new method, but that's just me. some times i get so lost in coloring i don't even notice something like my music has stopped playing and needs attention. it's just me, the tablet, and whatever program i'm using. if you want my attention you need to poke me. then wait.
