Artist's Comments

Holy crap, that previous is tiny!!! FULL VIEW PLEASE!

Well, I got distracted from Revolt when I got a great idea (from an old unfinished pic of mine)! It's related to another of my many stories named shi.no.yume.

The two girls in the image are the same person: Yuki Ryugawa. She has a sort of personality disorder, which causes her to be mentally unstable. Her right eye is blind (and bears a scar, which explains why she covers it with her hair).

The one on the right is the real Yuki; the one on the left is her darker side. (They don't really have wings. It was just a way of separating them into the angel and the demon.) They are not two people!!! Yeah, I won't elaborate too much on her case.

---

More technical stuff... I tried out a new CGing technique for this pic. Other than the usual cel-shading, I did some color blending to make it look more funky. Although, I do very much hate how dark Yuki's wings came out. I might rework them when I have time.

I wanted to add some interesting background elements, but I couldn't think of anything interesting, so that too I might add in the future.

---

Approximate time: 3 days
Medium: mechanical pencil 0.5 (with hard lead); ink pens (Berol DART II, uni-ball VISION micro, PILOT Hi-Tecpoint V5 Extra Fine), Photoshop 5.0
Number of files: 3 (one for Yuki, another for dark Yuki, and a last for the final version)
Layers: around 50
Music: Gackt - Metamorphoze; Witch Hunter Robin - Silence

Enjoy!

Sweet Jebus! This is absolutely fantastic. I have no criticism for this whatsoever. It's... perfect.

I examined it closely on full view. Actually I found nothing wrong with it, in my opinion! It's really great. I love how you made the shadow white for the dark side. That's creative. I've seen tons of pictures like this before. Those where great and all, but this one seems to be pulling at me....There's something about it that I love that I just can't quite put my finger on. Anyway, very nice.

Oh wow this is really nice! I love the cell shading you chose for the pic, its very well done. Finally another artist that doesnt do nails on thier characters... I get wierd comments about that on my own work v_v Keep up the great work, you must tell me how you got the sort of blurred/frosted look on the characters!!

wow this is awsome...I have to say your style of coloring is awsome. It almost seems simplistic but that only makes it stand out even stronger. ummm yeah the wings look great and every things proportions look good but maybe the left arm of the dark side might be too long....it's hard to tell it could just be part of her hand cause we can't see where the wrist starts. keep up the good work
:icondragonrider:
Hmm... I see what you mean about dark Yuki's wing... it's not up to your usual level of detail like the rest of the pic, and the angel wing just outdoes it (I've always been a fan of those angel wings. You do a great job with the feathers! ^.^). I'm not sure what you actually envision for it to look. However, when I was working on the wings for my latest piece, I used a tutorial from ~DigiAvalon on the lightning effects and messed around until I got an evil-looking effect I liked.

The color blending works - it's subtle, and gives an ethereal feel. I love the different eye designs for the light and dark side. It's a really difficult feat, I think, for using two different style eyes and still making the character look the same. Hell, I love the whole design and proportion. You draw your characters like they're visual poetry. I love the elongated, graceful style.

Backgrounds... well, I like the lack of a background with just the shadow, as it focuses the attention on Yuki's sides. However, maybe if you swapped background colors (dark Yuki gets white and good Yuki gets black) and then put up a simple design behind them? Like, dark Yuki gets some kind of evil-looking devilish symbol in black and good Yuki gets some angelic symbol in white. -shrug-

And is there any place to read these stories? I'm curious. T.T
